Official Buchanan County criminal records remain with the office that keeps the original file. Court records are split between two clerk counters in the courthouse in Grundy, while sheriff-created reports and warrant material begin with the Sheriff's Office in Vansant. This private site cannot retrieve, change, or certify a record. The contact details below identify the real local offices and the type of record each one maintains.

This Is Not a Government Office. This privately operated reference site is not part of Buchanan County, the Town of Grundy, any Virginia court, or a law-enforcement agency. It cannot retrieve or correct criminal records, perform an official check, or receive an expungement filing.

Buchanan County records are held by different custodians. Use the office that created or maintains the item:

  • Felony trial files and expungement petitions: Buchanan Circuit Court Clerk Beverly S. Tiller, 1012 Walnut Street, P.O. Box 929, Grundy, VA 24614; 276-935-6567; fax 276-935-7086; btiller@vacourts.gov; 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
  • Misdemeanor, traffic, and felony preliminary files: Buchanan General and J&DR District Combined Courts, 1012 Walnut Street, Suite 309, P.O. Box 654, Grundy, VA 24614; 276-935-6526; fax 276-935-5479; jlyall@vacourts.gov; 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
  • Sheriff incident, arrest, booking, and warrant material: Sheriff Allen W. Boyd, Buchanan County Sheriff's Office, 1327 Lovers Gap Road, Vansant, VA 24656; 276-935-2313. No separate records-counter hours are published.
  • Official Virginia criminal-history checks: Virginia Department of State Police, Criminal Justice Information Services Division, Central Criminal Records Exchange
  • Police incident reports: the law-enforcement agency that created the report, such as the Buchanan County Sheriff's Office, Grundy Police Department, or Virginia State Police
  • State custody or supervision records: Virginia Department of Corrections rather than a Buchanan County clerk or sheriff counter

The county directory does not identify a separately named sheriff's Records Division, records email, or walk-in schedule. Call 276-935-2313 before visiting the Vansant office and ask for the custodian of the specific sheriff record. For a court file, contact the appropriate Grundy clerk instead; the two clerk counters share the courthouse address but have different hours, mailing addresses, phone numbers, and record duties.
